UFC lightweight Luis Pena is in trouble with the law and he is currently incarcerated on a domestic violence charge. This is the second time he has been jailed in 2021.

Pena was arrested by police in Deerfield Beach, Florida on Friday. This was concerning domestic violence charges and he was promptly booked in the Broward County Jail in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was also arrested in June on a felony robbery charge, battery and criminal mischief. Those two arrests are not connected.

Concerning this week’s arrest, Pena’s misdemeanor charge for battery carries a $1,000 bond, and the second misdemeanor domestic violence charge has no bond amount, because a hearing is required before it can be set.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office released a statement to MMA Junkie after they requested more information. This statement made it clear that Pena was detained and taken into custody after an investigation.

At approximately 12:34 a.m., Broward Sheriff’s Office Deerfield Beach deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call near the 200 block of Southeast 12th Avenue in Deerfield Beach. On scene, deputies made contact with multiple subjects, and Luis Antonio Peña was later detained and taken into custody. Peña was transported to BSO Main Jail and faces one count simple battery and one count domestic violence battery (both misdemeanor). The investigation continues.

The 28-year-old fighter hasn’t had a bout since April where he won over Alexander Munoz at UFC on ESPN 22. He doesn’t have another fight on his schedule at this time.

Pena posted a photo to his Instagram stories on Friday with his girlfriend Jamie Driver. She is also a fighter with six professional contests, most recently competing in 2019. The caption on the photo said, “Y’all really thought it was over?”

It is not confirmed whether Driver was the female involved in this incident. We will continue monitoring this ongoing situation here at Thirsty.

With a history in finance, he broke into the journalism game by writing on blogs and other freelance websites before branching into sports and entertainment news. Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
