TV personality, MTV VJ, and former NBA wife La La Anthony appeared in an interview on The Angie Martinez Show recently. It was the first time La La has publicly spoken about her divorce from former NBA great Carmelo Anthony.
Following an 11-year marriage, La La filed for divorce, citing the ever-popular “irreconcilable differences.” The divorce came on the heels of rumors that Carmelo had fathered twins outside of wedlock with another woman.
La La told Angie Martinez, “It’s been years now since then. To a lot of people, it feels like this single thing is new. It’s been years now that we’ve separated, so I’ve dealt with the emotions behind it. I still have my moments, but for the most part, I can talk about it now and laugh about it and find the humor in it all. Otherwise, I’d be a basket case. I already went through that part.”
During the interview, La La talked about how her emotional well-being “got bad” due to the allegations of infidelity. She also struggled with the fact that everything was happening in the public eye. “That sh*t hit me really hard,” she said.
Despite everything, Anthony says that she remains on good terms with Carmelo. They are co-parenting 14-year-old son Kiyan while trying to remain as drama-free as possible.
The interview was very personal. La La held nothing back, though. She spoke candidly about her feelings, the allegations of infidelity, and having a divorce while raising a child.
The maturity and grace shown by La La should be applauded. She’s putting her family first and turning a difficult situation into an amicable one that works for their family.
