The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, became the subject of much speculation recently. The first trailer had a pretty dark tone to it which led fans to believe it could be rated R. It wouldn’t be too much of a reach because a number of recent DC Comics movies have been rated R. Justice League, Joker, and Suicide Squad have all received the rating. It seems, however, that release of new merch has all but confirmed that the upcoming Batman movie will be PG-13.
Recently revealed LEGO sets based on The Batman pretty much confirm that the movie will be PG-13. LEGO has a policy of not touching any properties that are R-rated. The fact that the toy company is producing merch based on the film more than likely means that it would be rated PG-13.
It shouldn’t be too much of an issue for fans as superhero movies are commonly rated PG-13. Studios make a lot more money that way by appealing to general audiences. Some theaters still ID kids getting into R-rated films.
There were rumors circulating that Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves wanted an R rating for the movie. It seems like nothing came out of it, and the movie will be receiving a PG-13 rating.
The Batman‘s current release is slated for March 4, 2022. It won’t be the only time we would see Batman in a movie next year, as Michael Keaton will make his return as The Batman in The Flash.
