Jesy Nelson was recently in hot water due to the controversy surrounding her new music video. The singer was accused of “blackfishing,” the act of pretending to look black or mixed race. Nicki Minaj is now defending Nelson and she’s throwing the Kardashian crew under the bus while she’s at it.
The former Little Mix star is not alone in this fight, as Nicki Minaj has now come to her defense. In a video posted online, Nicki Minaj gave her two cents on the blackfishing issue, calling out the Kardashian–Jenners for doing the same. That being said, the Kardashians and Jenners are not facing the kind of backlash as Nelson.
Black people get on this sh*t everyday and praise Kylie Jenner and Kim [Kardashian] and all the girls in their family.
Nicki then went on to comment on how much Kylie’s appearance has changed over the years, and how that could be considered “blackfishing” as well. However, Minaj said that she believes there is nothing wrong with that.
Is she blackfishing? No. I still commend her and compliment her and say yes b*tch, you that b*tch.
This is certainly a controversial subject with a lot of opinions on either side of the argument. Blackfishing is a real problem as Black culture has been historically appropriated by others. It doesn’t appear that is slowing down. You can check out Nelson’s music video for her single “Boyz” here:
