Dave Chappelle’s The Closer special on Netflix, the sixth in his deal with the streaming giant, caused a lot of attention. The trans community and DaBaby both received shots from Chappelle’s comedy cannon, and Netflix is taking fire as well.

Hannah Gadsby recently went off on streaming giant Netflix and comedian Dave Chappelle in the wake of a transphobia scandal that is rocking the powerful partners. Gadsby took to Instagram to vent their frustration with Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos as well as Chappelle and his fans.

The Aussie comedian went to town on Sarandos and Chappelle. Gadsby sent a clear and obvious message with her statement. They pulled zero punches, calling out the duo and Chappelle’s fans.

“Hey Ted Sarandos! Just a quick note to let you know that I would prefer if you didn’t drag my name into your mess. Now I have to deal with even more of the hate and anger that Dave Chapelle’s fans like to unleash on me every time Dave gets 20 million dollars to process his emotionally stunted partial world view. You didn’t pay me nearly enough to deal with the real world consequences of the hate speech, dog whistling you refuse to acknowledge, Ted. F*ck you and your amoral algorithm cult… I do sh*ts with more back bone than you. That’s a joke! I definitely didn’t cross a line because you just told the world there isn’t one.”

Sarandos has gone on record expressing his full support for Chappelle. The comedian’s latest Netflix special, ‘The Closer’ featured speech that many believe crossed the line from comedy to transphobia. Dave Chappelle has mostly shrugged off the criticism.

Hannah is no stranger to Netflix. The company released two Gadsby comedy specials back in 2018, ‘Nanette’ and ‘Douglas’. Based on the statement the comedian made, they were not paid nearly as much as Chappelle for this content.

Sarandos says Netflix will not be pulling the Chappelle special. Chappelle has received some support from members of the trans community. Gadsby begins an Australian tour followed by a trip to Europe beginning in late October.

Should Netflix remove or censor Dave Chappelle’s special? Let us know in the comments!
