Alyssa Milano was among those arrested during a voting rights protest outside of The White House in Washington, DC on Tuesday.
Milano attended the “No More Excuses: Voting Rights Now” rally hosted by People For The American Way on Tuesday. The rally was held ahead of the upcoming Senate vote. The 48 year old actress protested with faith leaders, civil rights leaders, and others, calling on President Biden to lead on voting rights.
In addition to the actress and liberal activist, 23 other protesters were arrested outside of The White House on Tuesday. Milano confirmed the arrest on her personal Twitter account.
I was just arrested for demanding the Biden Administration and the Senate to use their mandate to protect voting rights. Stand with me and @peoplefor and tell the Senate and White House that voting rights shouldn’t depend on where you live. #DontMuteOurVote
A U.S. Park Police officer warned the protesters that they could be arrested due to laws prohibiting crowding or obstructing streets or sidewalks. Milano tweeted ahead of the incident and said she was about to risk arrest to stand up for voting rights.
Milano is a Board Member for the People For The American Way organization. The group was advocating for voting rights ahead of the Senate vote to move forward with the Freedom To Vote Act. The legislation is set to reform voter registration and would make Election Day a national holiday in the country.
