Actor, composer and skater Micah Beals has been arrested for vandalizing a George Floyd statue in New York City earlier this month.
Beals was arrested just today for the incident that happened on October 3 in Manhattan’s Union Square Park, according to the New York Post. The NYPD previously released footage of the incident, which showed Beals skating up to the Floyd statue and throwing gray paint onto the face and base of it.
The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force has charged Beals with second degree criminal mischief for tossing paint on the Floyd statue.
The 37 year old Beals was described by The Daily Mail as a “failed actor.” The actor previously appeared on CSI: NY, and Parks & Recreation. Beals has also done a number of commercials and public service announcements. “Micah Femiah” is the stage name used by Beals.
Beals was previously arrested during the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6 for a curfew violation. He has also been arrested multiple times since 2002 in his home state of Michigan, as well as in California and Washington State.
Beals is not facing any federal charges in the Floyd statue case, but it remains ongoing. The NYPD originally investigated the incident as a hate crime, but he has not been charged with any hate crime-related charges. Police have yet to address a possible motive for the vandalism.
