Sylvester Stallone recently said goodbye to The Expendables franchise. He was very nearly cast as the villain in a major DC Extended Universe movie until Brendan Fraser won the role instead.
The Hollywood Reporter‘s Borys Kit recently shared the story of how Sly Stallone was nearly cast for the Batgirl role. He was offered the role of Firefly, but things ultimately didn’t work out.
“Sylvester Stallone first had the offer for the part but things just didn’t work out. Another key role in BATGIRL: the son of the gangster/villain, who becomes romantically linked to…well, you can take it from there.”
Stallone is no stranger to the world of DC comics. He recently voiced King Shark alongside John Cena’s Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad. The Rocky actor also appeared in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. back in 2017 as Starhawk.
The reason Stallone didn’t take the role isn’t known. The 75-year-old hasn’t been hard up for work. He will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and is working on a sequel to 1993’s Demolition Man.
Fraser has stayed out of the spotlight in recent years. Fans are thrilled to see him back as Firefly. Batgirl is expected to drop on the HBO Max streaming service sometime in late 2022.
