While Jamie Dornan is well aware that the “Fifty Shades of Gray” movies are not exactly critically acclaimed, the actor has expressed an issue with the movies being considered a bit of a joke.

In an interview with British GQ, Dornan opened up about his feelings regarding the trilogy. Dornan seemed quite defensive about the movies, claiming that he has no regrets about being a part of them, and that they were a good move for his career.

Look, put it this way: it’s done no harm to my career to be part of a movie franchise that has made more than $1 billion. Every working actor would say the same thing. It’s provided — a lot.

Dornan also defended the series, claiming that despite what critics say, fans of the books seemed to enjoy the movies. Dornan also added that he does not appreciate the series constantly being made fun of.

I take issue with the whole thing being just a bit of a joke. Everyone involved worked as hard as they could on those films, including myself.

Dornan, of course, portrayed the titular Christian Gray, alongside Dakota Johnson’s Anastasia Steele. Johnson herself has defended the movies previously. In a 2016 interview, the actress said that she is proud of Fifty Shades of Gray.

While some may claim that the trilogy rightfully deserves the mockery it faces, it can definitely be difficult to deal with for someone who worked so hard on it. That being said, nothing is immune to the scathing wit of the internet.
