Joe Manchin Compared To Evil Oil Baron From Dune

Actor Timothée Chalamet recently posted a meme on his Instagram story that compared U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) to the evil oil baron from Dune. Manchin has made news recently for being one of the party’s holdouts on President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda.

Chalamet plays the lead in the new reboot of Dune. The meme came from an eco Socialist group on Twitter and was shared by the famous actor on his Instagram. Several parallels were drawn between Senator Manchin and Baron Harkonnen.

“Uses government to enrich himself via family mining company. Ignores overwhelming will of the people out of naked greed. Actively destroying the climate, dooming millions.”

Manchin is deeply tied to the West Virginia coal industry. He has been leading the charge against Biden’s pro-climate agenda despite becoming even richer through his investments in fossil fuels.

Manchin’s opposition comes shortly after the out-of-touch Senator made an ironic announcement. Standing aboard his personal yacht, Manchin shouted, “We’re going to make the rich and famous pay!” as he was questioned by skeptical supporters of the President’s plan.

Manchin, who make $500,000 per year in dividends alone from the energy industry, said that Biden’s $3.5 trillion plan was too expensive. Since then, the number has been cut to $1.5 trillion after the removal of paid family leave from the budget package.
