Russell Westbrook of the Los Angeles Lakers loves to have fun on and off the basketball court. Some fans took offense, though, when Westbrook did a gang-affiliated dance on the court at the Lakers game against Cleveland over the weekend.

Marcus Spears of ESPN noticed the moment and shared it on Twitter. Westbrook performed the move as he was bringing the ball up for an offensive possession. Some fans were upset with Westbrook for hot dogging. Others thought the stunt was hilarious.

“Did Russell Westbrook just crip walk across the court while G’d up by the Eastsidaz played in the background?”

Spears pointed out the irony of the song that was playing. Snoop Dogg is known to be affiliated with the Crips over the years. Westbrook addressed the issue at practice early during the week.

“Bro you know what, not really, I have done it a few times, probably in Oklahoma a few times. But literally like, if you from L.A., certain music, certain tunes just kind of hit you differently and you kind of, like, I don’t know—all I heard was the music and I was like, ‘Oh, this is my joint right here.’ And my feet started moving. You know, it is just how it works in me and I just had to dance, it is something I kind of enjoy doing. Kind of happened in the middle of the game. I enjoyed it.”

The Lakers beat the Cavs that night 113-101. Westbrook dropped 19 points on Cleveland to go with his 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The lakers also beat hapless Houston (1-5) on Halloween night to improve to 4-3. Westbrook’s line that night read 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists.
