Ariana Grande Lands Lead Role In Wicked Film Adaptation Of Broadway Musical

Ariana Grande and Tony-winning, Oscar-nominated singer-actress Cynthia Erivo announced that they will be starring opposite each other in the highly anticipated film adaptation of the smash Broadway musical “Wicked.”

They will fill roles originated by Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel of the “Wicked” musical by Winnie Holzman, which is currently in its 18th season on Broadway. Wicked the movie is currently in development, with production set to start in summer 2022 in the UK. The movie will be directed by Jon M. Chu (director of “Now You See Me 2” “Crazy Rich Asians”).

Wicked follows the friendship of two young sorceresses The Good Witch and The Wicked Witch of the West before the events of “The Wizard Of Oz.” Pop Icon Ariana Grande will play the teen version of Glinda (the Good Witch) opposite Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West).

The two teamed up on the announcement on their Instagrams. Erivo posted a series of photos, writing, “Pink goes good with Green 💚💚💚@wickedmovie @jonmchu @arianagrande”.

Grande’s included photos of Erivo and her getting the Zoom call from Chu saying she was being cast in the big-screen musical; captioned, “thank goodness 💘 @jonmchu @cynthiaerivo @wickedmovie”
