The Ben Simmons saga continues in Philadelphia. The Sixers point guard started the season off with a bang, getting thrown out of practice and suspended. Simmons said he was suffering from mental health issues but refused to cooperate with the team as they tried to get him help. Now, Bleacher Report has reported that Simmons doesn’t trust the mental health doc assigned to him by the team.
Shams Charania of The Athletic broke the news on Monday. She said Simmons doesn’t feel comfortable with the doctor the franchise has provided. Therefore, he’s still not meeting the team’s requirements for him to get back into the lineup and remains subject to fines.
“Philadelphia does not have a mental health doctor on its staff with whom Simmons is comfortable.”
Simmons has provided the team with a list of his current mental health providers. The team is unable to get any information from them without Simmons’ consent due to patient confidentiality law. Therefore, the stalemate continues.
Officials from the Philadelphia 76ers are hopeful that they can retrieve more details about Simmons’ treatment and progress. The team seems more optimistic than their supporters. Fans are getting frustrated with his absence and are hoping for a resolution.
Even without Ben Simmons, Philadelphia is off to a hot 8-2 start. That’s good enough for first place in the Atlantic. If Ben can get his mind right and return to the team, they will be a frontrunner for the NBA championship.
