The new XFL is set to launch in 2023 and there are those that await that time with bated breath. The new owners, mega-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, his ex-wife and business partner, Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital Partners, are keeping people interested however, with announcements peppered over time, as people await the debut.
The XFL was a failed attempt by WWE chairman, Vince McMahon – not once but twice – and it was this aforementioned group of partners that took the football league off of his very capable but seemingly exhausted hands.
Vince McMahon isn’t at all one to give up easily, but it seemed as though for him, the XFL was proving to be a lot more trouble than it was worth. Besides, he seems to have his hands full over at WWE right about now and since the pandemic got under way. The statement made by Dany Garcia regarding the new list of executives for the new and improved XFL league is as follows:
“These exceptional and talented executives encompass a deep skill set that aligns with our commitment to delivering an exceptional football universe experience, as well as our shared passion for bringing the XFL back stronger than before.
Our team’s experience across varying professional sports leagues and brands will enable us to deliver an experience for our fans, athletes and partners that represents today’s evolution of ‘best-in-class’. A tremendous amount of work has already been done with more exciting news to come as we prepare for 2023.”
The list of the executives announced is as follows:
Marc Ross, Executive Vice President, Football Operations
Doug Whaley, Senior Vice President, Player Personnel
Scott Harniman, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Technology
Jay Rothman, Senior Vice President, Broadcast Operations
Cindy Wagner, Senior Vice President, People Operations
Russ Brandon, President, League and Football Operations
Rob Gerbe, Chief Financial Officer
Jordan Schlachter, Chief Business Officer
Janet Duch, Chief Marketing and Content Officer
Included are of course Russ Brandon, who has a history in the NFL quite obviously, Jordan Schlachter, who was with the XFL at a prior time and is returning (as were others on the above list); as well as the aforementioned few with loads of experience among them.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia with their aforementioned partners purchased the XFL for a reputed $15 million, and this was mere hours prior to the league going up for auction, incredibly enough.
