With the Denver Nuggets leading the Miami Heat by a wide margin late in the fourth quarter on Tuesday, the game very nearly took a turn towards a brawl. Denver center Nilola Jokic shoved Markeiff Morris from behind. Jokic was retaliating for a hard foul by Morris on the previous play.
Both benches cleared as tempers flared. There was a mass of humanity on the court as officials discussed what to do with the situation. Ultimately, the Heat got the worse of it. Jimmy Butler‘s profanity-laden rant from the bench cost Miami a technical foul. The TV cameras caught the entire scene.
“Bring that sh*t! Bring that sh*t! Bring your ass to the back! Bring your ass to the back! Let’s go!”
Morris appears to be OK after the unnecessary blow from Jokic. Nicola is likely going to face a suspension from the league for his part in the incident. Morris and Jokic were both ejected from the game. With things basically settled on the court, it was a wise move to separate the two from the heat of the moment.
The Nuggets won the game by a final score of 113-96. Jimmy Butler logged 31 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists. Morris had contributed 10 points before his ejection. Jokic scored the rare ejection triple double. His line read 25 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The Heat fall to 7-3 while Denver improves to 6-4 on the young season. Miami is back in action tomorrow night against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Nuggets take on the Indiana Pacers the same night. It is unknown if Nikola Jokic will be eligible to play, pending any suspensions from the NBA.
