2016’s Doctor Strange made many fans familiar with Benedict Cumberbatch’s character of the same name. Strange has been featured in several films since then, including Avengers Infinity War and Endgame, where he played a significant role. He will also have a huge role to play in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will deal with multiverses.
Tom Holland also previously stated that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be the end of the Homecoming trilogy. He then made it clear that a fourth film featuring the webhead isn’t impossible. Holland further added that Marvel would build something different with a possible fourth film.
It was also previously reported that Spider-Man: No Way Home will mark the beginning of the shared universe with Sony and Marvel. Holland even admitted that he didn’t think the script would work at first.
While speaking with Total Film, Tom Holland talked about Spiderman’s relationship with Doctor Strange in the upcoming film. Holland stated that the two are not necessarily friends but more like colleagues.
“It’s a very different relationship [from Tony Stark and Peter Parker]. I wouldn’t consider Doctor Strange as a mentor in this film – it’s more as a colleague. At this point in the films, Spider-Man has established himself as quite a powerful and serious Avenger. Doctor Strange sees that in him, and treats him like an equal. And throughout the course of the film, their relationship breaks down. And rather than becoming colleagues – they don’t become enemies, but they’re definitely not friends.
Spider-Man always wants to please everyone. He always wants everyone to be happy. And then, in this instance, that’s not the case. It’s an interesting relationship. It’s very, very different from the one of Tony and Peter. But it’s a fun one. And obviously Benedict [Cumberbatch] – I love him to bits. He’s such a good guy. I’ve worked with him loads of times now, and I’ve always really enjoyed it. He’s been a real joy and pleasure to work with. Spider-Man and Doctor Strange are a great mix. They look great onscreen. The balance between them is very funny.”
Holland also recently stated that the film will be very dark and sad and not fun at all. With Spider-Man: No Way Home promising to be one of the most ambitious films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is likely they will be bringing in many characters from the previous Spider-Man films. We will have to see how the film will become the bridge between the MCU and Sony’s universes.
