Method Man has been cast in “On the Come Up,” Paramount’s film adaptation of the young adult novel of the same name. Joining him as castmates are Mike Epps and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. The film is being directed by Sanaa Lathan, who also co-stars.
The movie tells the story of a sixteen-year-old girl who aspires to be the greatest rapper ever. She struggles, becomes stereotyped as a hoodlum after a track goes viral online, and struggles with poverty. The book was penned by Angie Thomas and released in 2019. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.
Other notable names on the casting sheet include Lil Yachty, GaTa, Titus Makin Jr., Anthony Cooper Jr., and Miles Guitierrez-Riley. Details on the who is playing which character are not available currently. Production on the film has already begun, so the mystery will be over soon.
The Wu Tang Clan member will bring legitimate rap chops and acting experience to whatever role he’s given. Epps appears enthusiastic about the role, posting a screenshot of the Reporter headline on his Instagram.
“In Good company We workin on some great film @sanaalathan killin it in her directors debut”
Method Man is currently featured in a role on 50 Cent’s Starz series “Power Book II: Ghost.” Yachty appeared in “How High 2” with DC Young Fly. That pair replaced Method Man and Redman, who starred in the original. Mike Epps was also on that cast. Method Man says he’s also working on a third How High movie.
