Fans of Downton Abbey won’t have to wait much longer for the next installment in the popular series. The lavish sets and period decor return on March 18, 2022 with “Downton Abbey: A New Era”. Hollywood Life provided a major update on the upcoming release.
Focus Features says the new movie went into production in April of 2021. The film was announced shortly after it went into production. Chairman Peter Kujawski gave a statement promoting the new movie.
“There’s no place like home for the holidays, and we can’t imagine a better gift than getting to reunite with Julian, Gareth, and the entire Downton family in 2021 to bring the Crawley’s back home for their fans.”
The film’s producer, Gareth Neame, also talked about the upcoming movie. Neame is the executive chairman of Carnival Films. Neame says the familiar settings will provide comfort during trying times.
“After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be reunited with the much-beloved characters of Downton Abbey.”
It’s been two and a half years since the first Downton Abbey movie was released. The initial film was a massive hit, earning $194 million worldwide. The television series won 15 Emmys and 3 Golden Globe Awards.
