Lil Wayne is famous for his early mix tapes. After releasing “No Ceilings” on streaming platforms, Wayne is now looking at other material to share. Young Money Entertainment president Mack Maine says fans can look forward to another streaming drop in 2022.
Maine talked to Billboard recently, where he dished some info. He says the mix tape should arrive in January. All of the original tracks should be in tact. It takes a while for Young Money to release the tapes because of Wayne’s heavy use of sampling. This causes rights issues which take time to clear up.
“Spoiler alert. We have [a mixtape] coming, probably in January. Shout-out to the fans. If we could, we’d put all of [the tapes] up in one month. It’s a tedious process. It’s not like a one-day thing. But we’re going to hopefully get all those mixtapes [up].”
The re-release of No Ceilings had to cut ten songs because of Wayne’s use of sampled music that the record label doesn’t own the rights to. It was still a success on the charts. The re-release hit #18 on the Billboard 200 in its debut week.
Lil Wayne is currently also dropping visualizers for singles from The Carter IV. The album is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The #1 album sold nearly a million copies on its debut in 2011.
Fans of old school Lil Wayne mix tapes have a lot to look forward to. The fact that all the original songs are included is a big deal, since the first release was cut in half. January can’t come soon enough for Weezy fans.
