Patrick Mahomes hasn’t exactly been his normal self for most of the 2021 campaign. He’s thrown a surprisingly high ten interceptions this season, on pace for a new career worst. The Kansas City Chiefs don’t look as unbeatable as they once did, sporting a mediocre 6-4 record through ten games.
The old Mahomes magic re-emerged on Sunday when the Chiefs walloped the Las Vegas Raiders 41-14. Mahomes was 35/50 for 406 yards and five touchdowns. He didn’t throw a single interception.
The monumental individual effort set a record in the NFL that has never previously been accomplished. Patrick Mahomes became the only player in the history of the league with multiple 400 yard passing games with 5 touchdowns. It’s an astounding feat that not even the most elite NFL QBs have reached.
It’s rare enough to break an existing record. The pioneering QB has set a mark that has never before been reached. In the long history of the NFL, only Patrick Mahomes can claim more than one such legendary performance.
Mahomes was aided by Travis Kelce, Darrel Williams, and Tyreek Hill in the achievement. Tight end Kelce had eight catches for 119 yards. Hill caught two touchdowns on 83 yards. Williams pulled in 9 balls for 101 yards and a touchdown.
The Chiefs should face more of a challenge in their next game. Kansas City faces the revitalized Dallas Cowboys (72) next Sunday. It will be another marquee matchup for Patrick Mahomes, as he goes toe to toe with Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and the Cowboys.
