John Mayer recently had an overzealous Taylor Swift fan slide into his Instagram DMs to let him know he should die. The Swiftie, who goes by the name Alondra, told Mayer she hoped the singer would choke. Screenshots of the exchange leaked online.
After continued provocations via direct message from the Swift fan, Mayer finally had enough. He asked the fan a simple question and told them it was OK if they shared the messages online. Ultimately, it drew an apology from the enraged fan. Page Six shared the screenshots.
“Hi Alondra, it’s John. I’ve been getting so many messages like these the past couple of days. I decided to choose your message at random to reply to. You can feel free to screen shot, share in any way you like if you want. I’m not upset, I just tend to have a curious mind and feel compelled to ask. Do you really hope that I die?”
John Mayer has long been a target for Taylor Swift’s online army of trolls. They had a brief relationship that Taylor sang about on 2010’s “Speak Now.” Alondra eventually took to her own self defense in the matter.
“people are hating on me. i wanted to let you guys know that i’m only 15 so let’s not send death death threats to me. also i apologized to john many times. i didn’t expect him to see my message he saw it 2 minutes after i sent it right before i was gonna delete it.”
Alondra also warned the singer that there would be more like her. The song “Dear John” was re-released as part of Red: Taylor’s Version. The singer has been re-recording her entire back catalog due to a rights dispute with the owners of the original material.
