Halyna Hutchins was fatally wounded on the set of Rust when a gun went off while Alec Baldwin held it. He was told it was a cold gun and safe, but that was sadly not the case.
Rust script supervisor Mamie Mitchell is now suing Alec Baldwin following the incident Rolling Stone reports.
Mitchell was the one who called 911 when Baldwin discharged that prop gun on set. She was “standing close” to Hutchins during the fatal shooting and feels that Baldwin is responsible for her death.
It is alleged that Alec Baldwin did not follow safety protocol on the set, and neither did the movie’s producers. Assistant director Dave Halls, and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed area also named.
“Alec Baldwin intentionally, without just cause or excuse, cocked and fired the loaded gun even though the upcoming scene to be filmed did not call for the cocking and firing of the firearm. Mr. Baldwin chose to play Russian Roulette with a loaded gun without checking it and without having the armorer do so.”
The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday. It also asserts that “Alec Baldwin should have assumed that the gun in question was loaded unless and until it was demonstrated to him or checked by him that it was not loaded.”
