This is not the first time UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has expressed a desire to face Canelo Alvarez. Usman recently spoke to TMZ Sports, and stated that his desire remains unchanged.
Alvarez is a middleweight boxing champion. Usman boasts a 20-1 career MMA record, and has been undefeated since 2013. It’s no surprise that he has been aching for a challenge.
UFC President Dana White disregarded Usman’s wishes, but that does not seem to have deterred him in the least.
I’ve already said the name that interests me. Canelo. That’s what interests me.
The ball is now in Alvarez’s court, after his knockout win over Caleb Plant. Alvarez has not yet accepted Usman’s challenge, but he did state that he does not think it makes sense for him.
I don’t see…It doesn’t make sense for me. I want to make history in boxing, and I don’t see anything right there.
Alvarez declining Usman’s challenge is definitely a disappointment for fans, who would love to see the legends battle it out. That being said, it does not seem like Usman might give up just yet. Check out his interview below.
