Scarlett Johansson previously sued Disney for streaming Black Widow on claims that the hybrid streaming and theater release of the film has cost her an exorbitant amount of money and is said to have lost over 50 million dollars due to the entire ordeal.
It was also said that Scarlett Johansson never thought she would have to sue Disney over the release of Black Widow. Her lawsuit was dismissed as an orchestrated PR stunt as well.
Disney would respond to Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit with a very nasty accusation. Johansson’s lawyer then fired back at Disney’s slander, stating that it was nothing more than a misogynistic attack on Johansson.
Ultimately, her lawsuit was settled before it went to trial and Johansson even released a statement regarding the matter. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Scarlett Johansson made it clear that she hopes her lawsuit with Disney will have a positive impact on the film industry as a whole.
“It’s an evolving time where there’s this huge sea change happening, and as my daughter [Rose] told me the other day, you can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs.
“It was a very surreal time because, of course, the film had come out and was hugely successful and that was a big celebration. I had a baby and that was obviously a life-changing, amazing, celebratory thing. In a way, that sort of buoyed me through the very uncertain, stressful time. I feel mostly very fortunate that nobody will have to go through what I went through and that it’s made, I think, a positive impact in the industry and hopefully for artists and creatives’ lives and livelihood.”
We will have to wait and see what is next in store for Scarlett Johansson now that her lawsuit with Disney has finally come to an end. It also remains to be seen whether her lawsuit truly will have a positive impact on the industry or not.
