Brian Laundrie passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Laundrie family attorney Steve Bertolino spoke to TMZ and shared the news today. The remains were recently examined by an anthropologist.
Laundrie’s remains were discovered at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park by law enforcement. His parents had advised authorities to search the area. The remains were in such a poor state due to decay and environmental factors that it took extra work to determine how Laundrie died.
Brian’s dental records tied him to the body of Laundrie, who is assumed to have killed former girlfriend Gabby Petito. Petito’s remains were discovered and her cause of death was listed as murder by strangulation. The pair were on a cross-country road trip and had a run-in with police during a dispute.
While no charges have been filed against them, many believe that Brian Laundrie’s parents withheld information from police. They have denied any such allegations. They’re just happy to have closure now, according to Bertolino.
The FBI said they previously searched the area where Laundrie’s remains were found. Unfortunately, the area was marshy, and the weather had been wet. At the time investigators went through, his body was submerged.
Ultimately, his parents pointed them back to the area. Whether they knew more than they’ve said is unknown. Those following the case certainly have their suspicions.
