Duggar Baucom entered Cameron Indoor Stadium with a major upset on his mind. College basketball fans have just been getting warmed up for the start of the new season. His Citadel Bulldogs were taking on the undefeated #5 Duke Blue Devils inside the legendary venue.
Things took a scary turn when a few minutes into the game, the Bulldogs coach collapsed on the sideline, according to TMZ Sports. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. As his team scored after an offensive rebound and were heading back on defense, an official whistled the play dead. Help rushed to the sideline as Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski looked on in concern.
After the game, his stand-in, Jack Castleberry shared his thoughts on the toughness of his boss. He said Baucom was in genuine pain at the time of the sudden collapse. He praised the head coach and said Baucom will be just fine.
“He just said he was in pain. You can tell with the look in his eyes that it was very, very genuine.”
The underdogs lost the game 107-81. The real win tonight is that their 7th-year coach is going to be alright. Duggar Baucom will rejoin the team on Tuesday. The team issued a statement affirming his good health.
It was a terrifying moment, for sure. Fortunately, he’s ok and received such a quick medical response. Get well soon coach Baucom!
