Joey Bada$$ made his debut into hip-hop with the mixtape 1999 in 2012. Since then, he has matured into more than just a rapper. He’s now a businessman and an actor with even more plans to elevate.
Joey’s success did not happen overnight, and he is making sure his fans understand that. Joey attended the REVOLT Summit in Atlanta, Georgia last week. There, he preached wisdom about success when it comes to cultivating our inner-circle (word to JAY-Z).
Joey believes in keeping the circle tight (word to JAY-Z). However, he doesn’t think people have to always buddy up with those who are smarter. Joey shared some tips about finding honest and loyal buddies.
“Your circle is very important. However, I don’t think that you should be fully focused on only hanging out with people smarter than you,” Joey Bada$$ said. “Because we all have a duty here, we all have a responsibility. I forgot who it was that I was watching, but they had an interesting concept on this, and it was basically like the 33 percent rule.”
He continued, “33 percent of the time, you should be hanging out with people who are smarter than you. The other 33 percent, you should be hanging out with people who are on your level. And the last 33 percent, you should be hanging out with people you’re smarter than.”
This way, we are evenly distributing our talents. We are learning and educating at the same time. Not only are we learning and educating, but for the group in the middle, we get to push each other, we get to challenge each other.
Joey’s outlook on life has gotten him far in life, especially when it comes to his future. The Brooklyn rap star told HipHopDX at Rolling Loud New York last month that he used to watch old JAY-Z and Kanye West interviews to help him deal with the uncertainty of the future.
Quite motivating, don’t you think? Sound off in the comments!
