Ex UFC fighter Luis Pena was arrested on Tuesday. This marked his third publicly-known run-in with Johnny law since this summer. That has not been a string of good luck for him at all.
According to Broward County, Florida obtained by TSN, Pena “faces two new misdemeanor charges: battery and criminal mischief.” He is currently being held at Paul Rein Detention Center in Pompano Beach, and no bond has been set.
Pena was arrested in June on felony charges of robbery, battery, and criminal mischief. His second arrest took place on October 10th where he faced simple battery and domestic violence charges. .
UFC released Pena from his contract just hours after the news broke of his second arrest. They released a statement on the matter that held the company’s official stance on the matter.
“UFC is aware of the disturbing allegations concerning the recent arrest of Luis Pena. Mr. Pena has been open about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse issues and the organization has on multiple prior occasions attempted to help him get professional treatment. At this time, UFC believes Mr. Pena needs to deal with the health and legal issues in front of him, and consequently has informed Mr. Pena’s management that his promotional agreement has been terminated.”
We will continue monitoring this story here at Thirsty. Pena is a good fighter and he had a lot of potential. It appears his personal demons are getting in the way. Hopefully, it will have a happier ending than the current circumstances that he is in.
