Young Dolph was recently shot and killed in his hometown of Memphis. Since that tragedy, at least two other potentially-related shootings took place. Everybody around the rapper was feeling the effects of the senseless killing.

Hit hardest of all was Dolph‘s girlfriend, Mia. According to TMZ, Mia’s brother was killed last year. She started a campaign known as “Black Men Deserve to Grow Old,” which ran under her clothing line, Momeo. The campaign that started with the loss of her brother has exploded in popularity since the death of her partner, Young Dolph.

A brand manager for Momeo spoke to TMZ. They said orders have significantly increased as the shooting brought an ironic awareness to the campaign. The Momeo shop went from 20 orders a day to 250-600.

A new Young Dolph hoodie was added to the line, and it’s been the hottest selling product of all. Momeo is excited to have the opportunity to signal boost their BMDTGO charity campaign. So far, they’re exceeding their goals.

The initial idea was to sell 3,000 products by year’s end. 1/3 of the proceeds from these sales will go to grieving families who lost a loved one too soon. That number will be surpassed within a week.

It is a shame that these deaths have to happen to get people to pay attention to a severe problem. While Mia has certainly experienced major tragedy, she should be applauded for working to make a positive out of a nightmare situation. She’s lost two young black men in her life, and she’s reaching out to help others in similar circumstances.
