Alec Baldwin accidentally held a prop gun in his hand on the set of Rust. Then it fired and cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed. This was a nightmare that still continues for the 30 Rock star.
TMZ reports that Baldwin has lawyered up in a big way as more civil lawsuits are mounting up. Those suits are a direct result of the Rust tragedy.
He has hired Aaron S. Dyer of Pillbury Winthrop Shaw to represent him. This came at a crucial time as more lawsuits are coming in, including a recent lawsuit from script supervisor Mamie Mitchell. She claims to have suffered emotional and physical injuries when Halyna was shot.
The key gaffer on Rust is also taking legal action already against Alec Baldwin. Halls and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed are also under fire in that lawsuit that alleges negligence.
Alec Baldwin was reportedly told he had a cold gun on the set that day. Sadly, proper precautions were not taken and a life was lost. Since then several productions, including all of The Rock’s movies, will stop using that type of live prop firearm.
