Oscar De La Hoya was set to make his return to the boxing world in a match against Vitor Belfort on September 11th. Dana White in particular wanted La Hoya to lose badly. It seems he wants to return to boxing next year.
His boxing match against Vitor Belfort was likely one of many matches as Oscar De La Hoya was determined to make a proper comeback. Unfortunately, that match no longer happened after La Hoya revealed he tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be hospitalized.
Oscar De La Hoya would recover a few days later and made it clear that he was raring to get back to the ring. La Hoya even made a $100 million offer to Floyd Mayweather for a boxing match.
While speaking to TMZ, Oscar De La Hoya stated that he wants to make his return to the boxing world next week. He then hinted at facing Floyd Mayweather for his return match.
Personally, right now I’m not motivated because of COVID. I was actually in great shape and then COVID hit me, so my morale right now is a little low in terms of me fighting in the ring personally But come January, I’m sure I will get right back into it and start training again and prepare myself mentally first. But I do want to get out there again, possible Cinco De Mayo.
Who knows, it could be Floyd Mayweather,” Oscar said, later continuing … “It’s probably the biggest fight you could make today.”
Floyd Mayweather beat La Hoya the last time the two crossed paths, so we will have to wait and see if La Hoya will have a better chance the next time the two clash.
