Spider-Man: No Way Home is proving movie industry skeptics wrong. Those insiders who claim the pandemic has led to slow box office numbers now must answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In its first day of ticket presales on Fandango, the film smashed the previous record set by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
In just two hours, sales outpaced the entire first day advance for Black Widow. Black Widow held the record for 2021 advance sales. Now, Spider-Man has obliterated even pre-pandemic sales numbers. Deadline reported on the movie’s phenomenal early performance.
“The first day presales for Spider-Man: No Way Home are higher than those for pre-pandemic titles such as Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man: Far from Home, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
There are some heavy hitters on that list. Star Wars and The Avengers are two of the biggest properties in Hollywood. It now appears that Spider-Man sits atop the impressive heap.
All indications are that the movie will have an opening above $100 million. That would put it into the top five December openings of all time. The film is almost guaranteed to be massively profitable.
Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17, 2021. For those fans who typically wait to get their opening day tickets, let this serve as a warning. You might have to wait a while to find a seat.
