Kathy Griffin has officially beaten cancer. The 61-year-old comedian shared the news with Jimmy Kimmel last night. Her diagnosis was revealed in August.
Kathy told Jimmy that she had surgery that same month, removing half of her lung. Her voice also got noticeably higher. She says she’s doing great, though, and is just happy to be cancer-free.
“I had surgery, you’re not going to believe this — so, I’ve never smoked but I got lung cancer. In August, I had half of my left lung removed.
… Yes! So I’m cancer free,” she said. “I don’t know why, I had a tumor, right? And I’ve never smoked, and it was in there for 10 years. So get this, they took it out, and they found it on another scan.
So I go in, and here’s the thing: when you’re a comic, it’s horrible when the doctors want to do their material on you.”
Griffin went on to explain how her surgery was performed. She encouraged fans to keep up to date with their medical care. She also said that she will be just fine. You can check out her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! below.
