Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani in the new movie “House of Gucci.” It isn’t the first time she’s acted, of course. Gaga received critical acclaim for her performance alongside Bradley Cooper in “A Star is Born.” Her acting career started much earlier, though.
Lady Gaga appeared in a 2011 episode of HBO’s The Sopranos entitled “The Telltale Moozadell.” She told Entertainment Weekly that she totally flubbed the scene. The accomplished actor was playing “Girl at Swimming Pool #2” at the time.
“I didn’t know how to listen in a scene. I was supposed to laugh, and it was sort of like, cue, laugh. I see it and I go, oh, that’s not a real laugh!”
Gaga talked about how the ability to recognize nuances such as the missed cue in The Sopranos develops with experience. She said she’s gone from a generic actor to someone who really knows what she’s doing.
“The nuance and being specific as an actor is something that can grow over time if you’re willing to listen and really hear the other actor that you’re working with.
I see a very non-specific actor [on The Sopranos], and now I see myself as someone who is at least really striving to be specific without thinking about it, and that requires a lot of work ahead of time. I really thank my acting teacher, Susan Batson, she and I worked for months and months on this before we filmed, and Ridley Scott, an incredible director who creates a sanctuary for you on set to just fly.”
House of Gucci has received mixed reviews. It has a 62% score from critics, according to Rotten Tomatoes. It’s been received much more favorably by fans. The audience score is 83%. You can check out her appearance on The Sopranos below.
