Young Dolph was tragically murdered in broad daylight in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee recently. At the time, he was just stopping to pick up some baked goods. He was on his way to hand out Thanksgiving turkeys as a way to give back to his community.
Now, the city he loved is planning to give him a huge honor. TMZ has reported that the City of Memphis plans to name a street after the fallen rapper. An unveiling is schedule for December 15.
The ceremony will take place at an intersection near the Memphis Depot Industrial Park. There is no news on what the street will be officially called. Councilman JB Smiley has spearheaded the effort.
Smiley says he got the OK for the honor from Young Dolph’s family before he made any announcement. The street name will serve as a reminder to the community of a person who embodied the local spirit, according to Dolph’s family.
“He sent the message that someone who went to the same schools as them, and walked the same streets that they do, was able to not only create a successful legacy for himself, but also prioritized family and community.”
Young Dolph was only 36 years old when he lost his life to a senseless act of gun violence. His murder spread shockwaves throughout hip-hop. With the new street being named after him, his hometown of Memphis hopes to immortalize another life lost too soon.
