On Sunday, the President Joe Biden renewed an old tradition which had been absent in D.C for some time now by attending the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony. He followed that up by hosting the honorees afterwards at the White House.
President Biden held a reception at the White House to host the honorees of this year’s life time achievements awards while being seated front and center. The honorees were Lorne Michaels, Bette Midler, Berry Gordy, Justino Diaz and Joni Mitchell.
In the audience there were many high profile figures of the political world mainly First Lady Jill Biden, Vice-President Kamala Harris, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, people from the entertainment industry included actor Steve Martin and David Letterman.
President Biden, who was dressed in a tux, delivered some of his thoughts highlighting each person’s contribution via their art while going down the list applauding them. He also remembered legendary music composer late Steven Sondheim, who recently passed away.
The whole reception lasted less than half an hour, but even so, it meant a lot to some people since it was last hosted at the White House back in 2016. President Trump discredited the ceremony the first three years of his office after threats of boycott in 2017.
