Lana Del Rey has been a huge pop sensation for many years. Her somber tunes and mellow music has led to a revival in gothic pop. However, it seems Del Rey wants to expand her horizons and work with some hip-hops artists.
Del Rey was recently at the red carpet of the Variety’s Hitmakers Brunch award ceremony. While she herself scored big at the ceremony, the artist was asked about who would she want to collaborate with. She said that Migos are her go-to favorites.
I love them. Everything they do. There was kind of like a new revolution of sound 11 years ago in the singer-songwriter community, which I loved seeing. And then with Migos, I think they kicked off a new super fun, super autobiographical, completely different style of rap. I love them.
Del Rey crossing into the direction of hip-hop is certainly a rare occurrence. However, she’s done it before, as she’s collaborated with the likes of A$AP Rocky & Cardi B.
Del Rey also won the Artist Of The Decade, which is the largest award in the entire event. She has had numerous contributions in the last decade, so her win is not exactly unexpected. She said while expecting the award:
Thank you, Variety. I’m really always grateful for any acknowledgment and also super grateful for all the criticism… I get a lot.
Lana Del Rey admitted that one of the bigger challenges in her career was being open to criticism. She said that the biggest challenge in her career was “turning criticism into something that you can reflect upon … There’s a lot of opinions. I’m very sensitive.”
We will have to see if this collob actually happens. In the meantime, we are very interested.
