Police have arrested the man they say is responsible for shooting Jacqueline Avant, the wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office has charged Aariel Maynor with murder, attempted murder and felon with a firearm as well as two counts of residential burglary with person present. The charges were filed less than one week after Avant was killed.
L.A. District Attorney George Gascón commented on how Jacqueline touched so many lives.
Mrs. Avant was a treasured member of our community. Her generosity and good will touched so many lives.
Maynor allegedly broke into the Avant family home around 2:30 AM on Wednesday, December 1. He then shot and killed Jacqueline, and shot at a security guard. Mr. Avant and the security guard were uninjured.
Maynor was arrested on the night of the murder after police found him in a backyard six miles from the Avant home, while committing another crime. Maynor actually shot himself in the foot with the same weapon it’s believed he used to murder Avant.
There is no word yet on Maynor’s motive, but a random attack is possible.
