A teenager J. Cole once attended one of Alicia Keys’ concerts in the hope of impressing the songstress during her ascent to fame back in the day, but Alicia left the event as any artist would – by waving at their fans.

That was years ago. Today, Cole is one of the biggest names in the rap game and Alicia has cemented herself as a legend in the music industry. The veteran songstress recently talked about the encounter during an interview with Complex.

“I heard the story, and I think the story is amazing,” she said. She continued, “Definitely can’t say that I remember the look I don’t know if the look made it to me. He might have had the look, but I might not have been there. I might have been too far to see the look.”

“I don’t remember it, but he clearly remembers it, and it’s a good vibe, you know, because it’s really cute because everybody has a story like that. You know that person that they just ‘if I could just get in front of them they would feel me I know it.'”

Cole would eventually get his wish of meeting Alicia fulfilled years later. The “Middle Child” singer recorded a song with Alicia for her new album, Keys, which dropped Dec. 3.

“That’s the first time we connected,” the 40-year-old spoke of her studio session with Cole. “He came through, he happened to be in the same place. We were talking, we were conversating, building. And then we just kinda happened to fall on some vibes or some things or some flows,” she said.

The “No One” songstress assured her fans they’d hear the tracks she recorded with Cole one day. “We’ll see what happens,” she said. “It’s good too. I liked it and it was easy, it was fluid.”
