Former ‘America’s Got Talent’ contestant Skilyr Hicks has sadly passed away. She was only 23 years of age. It seems the cause of her demise is not yet known.
According to TMZ, the young singer-songwriter passed away Monday, where she was found lifeless in the home of a friend as revealed by her mother, Jodi. Hicks passed away in Liberty, South Carolina.
The girl’s mother stated that her daughter battled with mental health issues, including depression and substance abuse. It was said that Skilyr Hicks was loved by her family and 4 siblings. Her mother said, “She will live on through her music.”
Skilyr Hicks made a name for herself when she was just 14 years old as she appeared on season 8 of ‘America’s Got Talent’ in 2013. She auditioned for Mel B, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Howard Stern and made it to the next round.
She performed an original song of her own during her debut, but was ultimately eliminated right after that before the live rounds in NYC. She also had trouble with the law in the years after that as she was arrested for underage drinking and was behind bars for allegedly roughing up her family. We would like to offer our deepest condolences to Hicks’ family and friends during this sad time.
