Kanye West recently dedicated his Sunday worship service to the memory of his long-time friend, Virgil Abloh. The two met in 2002 and started working together at Fendi. Abloh later became the creative director for Kanye’s Donda agency.
Now, rumors are circulating that Ye may be set to take over Virgil’s creative director role for Louis Vuitton. Abloh sadly passed away from cancer last month. A source told The Sun that Kanye feels he owes it to his old friend.
“Kanye is devastated about Virgil’s death because they had been friends for years and worked together a lot. They shared a similar vision and now Kanye feels he owes it to Virgil to continue his work at Louis Vuitton.”
Kanye and Virgil have worked closely in the fashion industry in the past. Virgil did design work for many of Kanye West’s most iconic album covers. It has not been confirmed that Ye will take the role, but there’s little doubt he’d be interested.
The worlds of music and fashion mourned the loss of Abloh. His service took place on December 6 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. It was attended by Rihanna, Tyler The Creator, Drake, and more. He was truly an influential creator.
Now, Kanye West may take over the role that was left for him by his friend. If he takes the job, west will continue the work that Virgil Abloh left unfinished. Time will tell if there is anything to the rumors.
