While a month has passed since the tragic incident at Travis Scott’s Astroworld set, the world has not yet moved on. Travis Scott is still embroiled in lawsuits, and the families of the victims have found no relief yet either.
In order to take accountability for what happened during his performance, and also to reach out a healing hand, Travis Scott recently appeared in an interview with Charlamagne Tha God.
This was Travis Scott’s first public appearance since the tragedy occurred, and in a somewhat disastrous turn of events, it had had the opposite of its intended effect. While Scott made promises about ensuring that something like this never happens again, he did not take any responsibility for what happened.
Understandably, this has been a disappointing turn of events, for none more so than the families of the victims. The lawyers representing two victims in particular, Rudy Peña and Axel Acosta, made it clear that this statement from Scott is simply not enough.
In an interview with TMZ, Peña’s attorney stated that the interview failed to have any healing effect on the family, who believe that Scott is simply not taking accountability. Tony Buzbee, who is representing Acosta’s family, had a similar response to the interview.
Everything that Travis Scott has done or said since ten people died and hundreds of others were injured at his concert has been lawyer driven and calculated to shift blame from him to someone else.
Travis Scott and the event organizers are currently facing a $10 billion lawsuit from the 1,500 or more people who attended his set. While it wasn’t unexpected for the rapper to try to shield himself, it is disheartening nevertheless.
