After a beef that lasted over a decade, Kanye West and Drake finally ended it as they united for a similar goal. They performed at the Los Angeles Coliseum for their Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert on Thursday night.
Both rappers were draped in “Free Larry Hoover” merch that was on sale at the concert, making their goal clear. However, it seems not everyone is in support of their cause.
According to TMZ, a federal law enforcement source connected to the Larry Hoover case stated that federal officers are mad that the rappers are supporting someone the government considers the “worst of the worst.” It was also said that prosecutors are “surprised” to see Drake and Kanye West supporting the #FreeLarryHoover movement, considering the facts of his case.
Her did not pull the trigger but prosecutors said he directed the shooting of a man he accused of stealing from his gang. Hoover is credited with founding Chicago’s infamous Gangster Disciples.
While he was serving 150-200 years for the murder, the federal police made sure to indict and convict Hoover for drug conspiracy, extortion and engaging in organized crime. In 1997, he started serving 6 life sentences in a federal Supermax prison.
Those who support Hoover believe the U.S. government outrageously over-sentenced him, as his federal crimes were related to drug distribution, and not murders.
Earlier this year, the federal parole board denied Hoover’s request for a compassionate release. The 71-year-old has been in prison for 48 years. It is unlikely he will ever be released from the looks of it.
