LeBron James is quite obviously a key player for the LA Lakers. That should perhaps go without saying, but a few other names are just below him and are among other things, soon to be equally synonymous with what he brings to the team. Of course many would argue that they’re not there yet, but they’re indeed close.
One such player is of course Russell Westbrook, or rather fans would have thought so. That is until now, and recent reports suggest that Westbrook is on his way off the team as The Lakers plan to apparently unload him in upcoming trade talks.
Jake Fischer reports that the Lakers have held the aforementioned trade talks internally, but they plan on moving forward with the offloading of this recently acquired talent. Jake Fischer, who first reported this, said:
“The trio of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook simply hasn’t blended as well as Lakers figures hoped, and Los Angeles has held internal discussions on trade scenarios for Russell Westbrook.”
So essentially they’re attacking the team – or rather trio of LeBron, Davis and Westbrook – for not gelling as well as they had once hoped that they would, according to such statements. Why Westbrook has come under fire and not James or Davis remains a question, and a rather glaring one at that, for some.
Of course, Lebron has paid his dues, so many are wondering if this isn’t some of the old ‘excrement rolls downhill’ sort of deal, Westbrook being the last in seniority on the team? The 33 year old was only just acquired by the team in 2021.
He played for The Washington Wizards and the Houston Rockets briefly, but played the bulk of his NBA career with the Oklahoma City Thunder from 2008-2019. Who knows where the 2017 NBA’s MVP will end up next, but his career stats are certainly impressive. It’s too bad he, Lebron and Davis didn’t gel well after all.
