Scarlett Johansson previously sued Disney for streaming Black Widow on claims that the hybrid streaming and theater release of the film has cost her an exorbitant amount of money and is said to have lost over 50 million dollars due to the entire ordeal.
It was also said that Scarlett Johansson never thought she would have to sue Disney over the release of Black Widow. Her lawsuit was dismissed as an orchestrated PR stunt as well.
Disney would respond to Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit with a very nasty accusation. Johansson’s lawyer then fired back at Disney’s slander, stating that it was nothing more than a misogynistic attack on Johansson.
Ultimately, her lawsuit was settled before it went to trial and Johansson even released a statement regarding the matter. Johansson also hoped her trial would have a positive effect on the industry as a whole.
She is now producing for Disney, which has puzzled many fans. While speaking with the Collider, Scarlett Johansson explained why she is producing for Disney, as she is now involved in the upcoming Tower Of Terror film.
“I have worked for 30 years, which is insane when I say it out loud, but I think I just understand the efficiency of how productions run and how you thin the fat on a production and make things well oiled. I’ve learned that the fish rots from the head, which is very very true I think in any creative space, but particularly a production involves many hundreds of people and so yeah, just working with people that want to be there and all want to creatively contribute to the same kind of idea and building that kind of creative family I think is something I’m really excited about as I produce more and more things for other people.
As far as Marvel goes, it’s like working with family there. Marvel has some of the best IP ever and you can really dream big there and nothing’s ever off the table and you kind of throw all these blue-sky ideas around and see what sticks. It’s like a creative playground that’s just like a dream. Again, I have that shorthand with my fellow creatives there that comes from being in the world for 10 years with those guys.”
We will have to wait and see what is next in store for Scarlett Johansson now that her lawsuit with Disney has finally come to an end. It also remains to be seen whether her lawsuit truly will have a positive impact on the industry or not.
