Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry recently broke the NBA three-point record while playing the New York Knicks. Many players throughout the NBA congratulated Steph for Tuesday night’s game at Madison Square Garden, but his running mate Klay Thompson was not in attendance.
Curry is now the new 3 point king of the NBA. The record-breaking shot came with 7 minutes, 33 seconds left in the first quarter as Curry drained a 28-footer from the right-wing off a pass from Andrew Wiggins. The Warriors quickly fouled and called a time-out so that Curry could enjoy the moment. He hit two 3s which led to the Warriors’ 105-96 win over the New York Knicks.
The other half of arguably the greatest shooting duo of all time, Klay Thompson, didn’t accompany the team on its five-game road trip as he continues to work his way back from leg injuries. He took to Instagram to congratulate Steph.
“Congrats to my bro on becoming the greatest 3 point marksmen in history (we been knowing this),” Thompson wrote. “This man stephencurry30 has revolutionized the game and luckily for me I’ve had a front-row seat to witness what it takes to do what so many thought was impossible.”
Thompson missed the previous two seasons due to knee and Achilles injuries. Owning both the single-game 3-point record and the record for most 3s in a 5-game series (28), Thompson and Curry are each productive from beyond the arc. He is close to making his return to the court and joining Curry as one of the league’s elite shooters.
When he does return, Thompson will certainly be ready to give his teammate a run for their money. With Curry already present, getting him back into the lineup will make the Warriors an even more dangerous team.
