Kanye West and Drake recently buried the hatchet in their famed hip-hop feud. The two triumphantly performed at Kanye’s Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert to great hype from fans. Everyone was happy to see the two rap titans squashing their beef.
The reconciliation between Ye and Drizzy could’ve happened earlier. If it had, Drake wrote the hook for and originally guested on West’s “Yikes” track from 2018’s “Ye” record. Once the beef began, the feature was removed.
HipHopDX talked to one of the songs producers recently. Pi’erre Bourne revealed the surprising news. He said being in the middle of the feud was an uncomfortable position and he’s happy they’re getting along again.
“I’m so happy that they’re performing together – that’s great for this culture. Those are my big brothers, so to see them together, I never would’ve thought. But it’s amazing to see, makes me feel way better about everything. ‘Cause I’ve been in the middle! I’ve been quiet for years! I’m just glad they’re on stage together. Oh my gosh. That’s so amazing, bro.
And honestly, not too many people know that Drake wrote that. He sung the hook. When I was there, they were on the song together. Everyone was cheering me on because they were like, ‘You’ve got Drake and Kanye on your beat.’ I didn’t even know.”
High-profile beef is nothing new in hip-hop. Rappers are constantly dropping diss tracks and wallowing in negativity to sell records. Kanye West and Drake have finally taken the high road. It was not without its costs, though. Fans may have missed out on an historic feature over a simple personal disagreement.
