Julianna Pena is on top of the world. She recently pulled off a huge upset when she defeated Amanda Nunes for the UFC Bantamweight Championship. The public spotlight is on the fighter more than ever before in the wake of her historic victory.
WWE has always tried to incorporate UFC fighters into their product. They recognize the mainstream value of legit fighters putting over professional wrestling. AEW has taken a similar approach as well.
That is why it was no surprise when Pena showed up at WWE Smackdown on December 17, 2021. WWE shared a video of Pena talking about the great time she had at the event on their Instagram account. The new champ was grateful to have some fun.
“I am so happy to be here in Chicago with the fans enjoying the night. Great energy. It’s a blast. Thank you for having me, WWE.”
Amanda Nunes’ 12-fight winning streak was smashed when Pena tapped out the former champion just over three minutes into the second round. Pena has been celebrating the victory publicly ever since. It was a tremendous achievement that shocked the MMA world.
Who knows where Julianna Pena might show up next? She is riding the winds of her success to the mainstream. Time will tell if she joins other MMA breakout stars like Ronda Rousey and Junior dos Santos in the squared circle.
