Former POTUS Donald Trump shot a lawsuit at the New York Attorney General Letitia James. Only hours after the reports of the lawsuit overtook media, James said that Donald Trump is using the lawsuit to again hamper her investigation on him.
The lawsuit came after James asked Trump for his deposition on January 20th. James is of the opinion that it is just an attempt by the Donald Trump Organization to manipulate and stop the investigation against them.
Letitia James said that the lawsuit is in line with many other things the Donald Trump Organization has done to stop the investigation. She called the lawsuit a “collateral attack” on the investigation.
The Trump Organization has continually sought to delay our investigation into its business dealings and now Donald Trump and his namesake company have filed a lawsuit as an attempted collateral attack on that investigation.
James continued and added that neither Donald Trump or the organization hold any power over the investigation. She closed her comment by saying that no one is above the law, no matter who they are.
To be clear, neither Mr. Trump nor the Trump Organization get to dictate if and where they will answer for their actions. Our investigation will continue undeterred because no one is above the law, not even someone with the name Trump.
The investigation is about Trump’s business dealings while being president. James’ investigation wants to find whether the organization inflated asset value for banking purposes, and later strategically downplayed them for tax-related reasons.
Trump’s lawsuit, on the other hand, accuses James of intimidating him for political reasons. The lawsuit adds that James sees Trump, now a private citizen, a political competitor, and that is the reason behind the lawsuit, as per AP.
