Michael Jackson and Tupac Shakur are two well-known figures in the world of music. Several artists start their careers after being inspired by MJ and Pac. However, NLE Choppa, a 19-year-old rapper, believes that his admirers frequently compare him to those two legendary musicians.
NLE Choppa was interviewed by Power 106 at the Rolling Loud California festival. The Memphis-raised emcee responded to a query regarding resemblance to other artists. He said that a lot of MJ comparisons come his way.
“I get a lot of Michael Jackson comparisons, because of the type of energy I bring. Somebody even said I look like him. I don’t know where that comes from.”
“And I get 2Pac too, because what I stand for, what type of principles I stand on outside of music. See with me, it’s not about the music all the time. It’s about who I can impact, whose life I can change.”
NLE Choppa also took to Twitter last night to further clarify his comments about MJ and Pac. He added a post in his Twitter along with a a comment to clarify his comments.
“These comparisons got nothing to do with me MUSICALLY, everything to do with what I stand for outside of it. I’m prolific. I stand for some that can change the world.”
The Recording Industry Association of America awarded NLE Choppa his first 2x-Platinum award for “Shotta Flow.” Three further versions of the record “Shotta Flow Remix,” “Shotta Flow 2,” and “Shotta Flow 3” were also honored with RIAA awards. Top Shotta, a 2020 initiative, has received Gold certification. Choppa is certainly gaining a lot of sales, but it’s nothing on MJ or Tupac’s level quite yet.
NLE Choppa has spent the last year raising awareness about mental health issues in the Black community. To his 1.1 million Twitter followers, 4.3 million Instagram followers, and 4.8 million YouTube subscribers, he also advocates meditation, vegetarianism, and herbal medicine. Nobody can hate on him for that.
Choppa is only 19 years old and has a long road ahead of him. Maybe one day Choppa will back up his admirers’ comments.
